Small Room Decorating-Winter 2008

OK, ignoring the fact that we are already seeing the year 2008… I picked up Small Room Decorating- Winter 2008, a presentation form Country Almanac last night and by golly, gee whiz, it has some VERY intriguing resources in it!

Don’t worry if you aren’t a Country style person, this has a variety of design styles represented, with the through line of Small Space Decorating.

As a designer, I thrive on challenges and Small Space Decorating is one of the most intriguing issues related to Interior Design. I still have detailed sketches of a studio apartment project I worked on in grad school. *VeryBigGrin*

I am still reading it, but I got pretty far into it last night and the pictorials/articles are quite intriguing.

They have several Resource articles, and there were a couple of cool space saver ideas that caught my eye.

One was a combination shower curtain rod/towel rod. This means that you can leave the shower curtain closed so it will dry out AND still be able to hang towels so THEY can dry out. How cool is that?

ASIDE — I have always wondered why standard towel racks are narrower that standard bath towels are? You can’t really spread a towel out to dry on the rack… hence hanging them on the shower curtain rod. This nifty solution takes care of the towel on the shower curtain rod quite elegantly.

You can take a look on the web site Solutions.com, which is going on my bookmark list, ASAP! The towel rod/shower curtain rod can be seen HERE.

Another snazzy item in Small Room Decorating was a CIRCULAR KITCHEN…

Click here to see the Circular Kitchen web site. Ignoring the fact that I have a snarky streak and can’t resist pointing out that it is, in fact a COLUMNAR Kitchen, as a Designer, I find it *Just TOO Cool for Words*

In practical terms… I would love to try one out, just to see if it works or is annoying! LOL

I will admit that I have been known to overlook many annoyances if the object in question is cool enough from a design standpoint!

Anyway, I am enjoying this magazine and I am looking forward to settling in tonight and finishing it!

House and Garden Farewell

House and Garden Magazine will stop publishing with its December 2007 issue. They will be shutting down the web site as well.  I am in shock!

If there is any informaiton you want, you’d better stop by soon.

Que cerise, cerise

With 2 designers in the family, it isn’t often that I run across a color name that I can’t readily ID, but it happend a few days ago.

I was reading a Regency romance and the color *CERISE* was mentions.

I drew a COMPLETE BLANK!

I asked Jeffrey what color *cerise* was and he just looked at me, so… on to Wikipedia!

I looked it up and we looked at the swatch (Jeffrey was looking over my shoulder) and we just had to laugh…

It turns out that *cerise* is an intense red/pink and it is almost identical to the Raspberry Rush that is our current living room color. Raspberry Rush has an underlying orange tone that is obvious in bright sunlight, but allowing for monitor display quirks, cerise and Raspberry Rush are pretty darn close!
